Maryam Mirzakhani, an Iranian mathematician and professor at Stanford University, was born on May 12, 1977 in Tehran. She was the first woman and the first Iranian to win the Fields Medal.

In 2018, a foundation called the Maryam Mirzakhani Foundation was established in Iran.

The foundation has started its activities and virtual math training classes to prevent the spread of corona.

The Maryam Mirzakhani Museum will also open soon.

May 12, Maryam Mirzakhani's birthday, has been designated as World Women's Day in Mathematics.

In 2020, the second conference of Women in Mathematics Day, hosted by Alzahra University, will be held virtually on May 12 due to corona disease.

Dr. Soltankhah, a faculty member of Alzahra University, added: "The objectives of this conference are to support and encourage women mathematicians in the country, to promote and develop mathematics among women in society, to appreciate women mathematicians and to discover the talents among young mathematicians and to protect them.
