Alzahra University to Celebrate "Int'l Women in Maths Day 2020" Online


 

Around May 12th, the date of birth of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first and so far only female winner of the Fields Medal, a variety of activities will take place.

According to an ISCA report, Iranian Mathematical Society has announced that the celebration of "International Women in Maths Day 2020" will be held online, because of the Covid-19 crisis, on May 11th from 5pm to 7pm in Alzahra University.

 

In this ceremony, Dr. Mansour Vaezpour, head of Iranian Mathematical Society, Dr. Ashraf Daneshkhah, secretary of Women's Committee of the Iranian Mathematical Society, Dr. Nasrin Soltankhah, head of Department of Mathematics of Alzahra University, Dr. Madjid Mirzavaziri, faculty member of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Dr. Ebadollah Mahmoudian, faculty member of Sharif University of Technology will present their speech.

 

Maryam Mirzakhani was an Iranian mathematician and a Professor of Mathematics at Stanford University. She was one of the world's leading experts in geometry and dynamical systems. In 2014, she was awarded the Fields Medal for her outstanding contributions to the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli spaces, becoming the first woman, and the first Iranian, to be recognized for her mathematical achievements by this top mathematical prize.
