The visit of the South African delegation to Alzahra University

Mrs. Mikateko Joyce Maluleke, Director General of the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities in South Africa, Mr. Zolati Kumalo, Director of International Relations of the Ministry, and three of the Deputy Ministers of Empowerment of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities in South Africa, Mr. Wika Kumalo, Ambassador of South Africa in Tehran and his deputy visited Alzahra University on Sunday,28th of August 2022 and met and discussed with Dr. Farideh Haghbin, the president of Alzahra University and a group of vice-chancellors and heads of faculties and professors of Alzahra University at the international conference center of the university.

Mrs. Mikateko Joyce Maluleke, Director General of the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities in South Africa and the head of the guest delegation, in her speech, thanked the Alzahra University academicians for the well-deserved reception of the South African delegation and said: We are facing important and great signs of women's empowerment here. While in South Africa, we still struggle to empower women in social and economic dimensions. In my opinion, the development of women's social participation is not possible except with the cooperation of academic departments and the exchange of research experiences. She added: In Africa, women have been considered extremely weak due to the impact of the apartheid system and racial and gender discrimination. To realize women's empowerment to play the four important roles of women in the society and family that the president of Alzahra University mentioned, we need cooperation and exchange of experiences. She added: I agree with establishing the International Union for the Defense of Women's Rights, and I welcome this idea. The South African parliament has also passed laws to protect women and their rights. She then described the departments of the Ministry of Women, Youth and Disabled People of South Africa and the activities of each department separately, which sometimes overlap with each other. Creating employment for women and youth, reforming the urban transportation system to facilitate social transportation for physically disabled people, and passing laws to prevent violence against women and children are among the actions of that ministry in South Africa.
